Gail Crane writes romance novels and short stories inspired by the moors and coast of Exmoor.

Her fascination with the history and legends of Exmoor inspired her first non-fiction work, “The Murder of Anna Maria“, the true story of notorious Exmoor murderer, William Burgess. This was followed by “Stained Glass in Exmoor Churches”, an illustrated exploration of the stories behind the images in the windows.

She studied Creative Writing with the Open University, gaining a BA (Hons) degree, and is a member of the Alliance of Independent Authors.

Writing about gardens and plants

Gail Crane author and freelance writer. Writing about gardening and plants.

I love gardening and you can find me on Instagram, writing about my own garden on Exmoor with fascinating facts about the history and folklore of the plants.

Publishing

I publish as Aller Books, named after the River Aller which flows through the village where we were living at the time.

The River Aller, Exmoor. Gail Crane author and freelance writer. Publishing as Aller Books.

Long gone are the days when publishers took care of publicity and marketing and all the author had to do was produce the next book. Nowadays, authors are expected to do all their own publicity and marketing in return for a small royalty, while the publisher pockets the profits. Which is why, with the advent of the internet, huge numbers of writers now publish independently, and why I, too decided to become an ‘indie’ author. (It’s also the reason why reviews are so important for authors!)
